As of 2006, The Fillmore is owned and operated by Live Nation, a recent spin-off of media conglomerate Clear Channel Communications. In the mid-1960s The Fillmore became the focal point for psychedelic music and counterculture in general, with acts such as The Grateful Dead, Quicksilver Messenger Service, Jefferson Airplane, and Janis Joplin getting their start. The Fillmore, also known as the Fillmore Auditorium, is a legendary music venue in San Francisco, California made famous by Bill Graham. The Fillmore is also well known for its psychedelic concert posters by designers including Wes Wilson and Rick Griffin. The original Fillmore location became a private club called The Elite Club.
