Jewel's music is noted for its stark honesty and soulful introspection. Jewel Kilcher, born May 23, 1974 in Payson, Utah, is a singer-songwriter, actress, philanthropist, and author, generally known just by her first name, Jewel. Jewel started writing songs at the age of seventeen. Jewel cut her debut album, Pieces of You, when she was nineteen and it was released in 1995. The album (Pieces Of You) was a huge success and eventually sold over 12 million copies in the U.S. alone, more than all of Jewel's subsequent albums put together.
