The Detroit Lions have had considerable difficulty remaining competitive in recent years, going the entire 2001, 2002 and 2003 seasons without a road victory, thus becoming the only team in NFL history not to win on the road for three consecutive entire seasons. The Detroit Lions made the playoffs only once in the 70s, losing a defensive struggle to the Dallas Cowboys, 5-0, in 1970. The Detroit Lions would not finish with a record above .500 for the rest of the decade, enduring a string of bad drafts, bad coaches, and generally bad play on the field.
