The opening of the Boston Opera House on October 29, 1928 was attended by many of theater's most legendary personae, including George M. Cohan, of “Yankee Doodle Dandy” fame. Since then, the Opera House in Boston has hosted some of the most important and famous acts of all time.
This year's events will be no exception. The Boston Opera House schedule this year includes Sister Act, touring from Broadway, the living legend Tony Bennett and the touring show, Wicked.
Designed and dedicated at the height of vaudeville and constructed as memorial to Benjamin Franklin Keith, one of vaudeville's most important and influential entrepreneurs, the Opera House combines Italian and French styles, giving the theater a level of opulence modern venues would never be given.
Also on the schedule for 2013 is Mary Poppins, The Book of Mormon and opera legend Sarah Bright man.
Throughout its history, the Boston Opera House has hosted ballet and this year is no exception. Ballet Across America III will come into town on June 4 and 5. The Richmond Ballet, Oregon Ballet Theatre and the Boston Ballet will all appear on stage for one of dancing's biggest nights.
Boston Opera House tickets all guarantee great views. Designed for a time without sound amplification and video screens, Boston Opera House seating gives every seat an amazing vantage point and fantastic sound quality.
The first Boston Opera House was built in 1909 on Huntington Ave. in Boston, Massachusetts. During the Great Depression and World War II, the Boston Opera House fell into disuse and disrepair. The current Boston Opera House was fashioned from the former B.F. Keith Memorial Theatre, a movie and vaudeville theater at 538 Washington St. The Keith's Memorial opened October 29, 1928 and was dedicated to the vaudeville entrepreneur B.F. Keith. After closing as a movie house, the theater came into the hands of opera director Sarah Caldwell's Opera Company of Boston in 1980 and was renamed the Boston Opera House.
