After Magia, Shakira released Peligro in 1993. Between the ages of ten to thirteen, Shakira was invited to various events in Barranquilla, and gained some recognition in the area. In August of 2000 Shakira won an MTV Video Music Award in the now-defunct category of People's Choice - Favorite International Artist. Magia was Shakira's debut album, recorded with Sony Colombia in 1991, when she was 15. Pies Descalzos sold more than 4 million copies. Shakira, means graceful or full of grace in Arabic, is named after her grandmother. Shakira Isabel Mebarak Ripoll, born February 2, 1977, known simply as Shakira, is a Colombian Latin pop singer-songwriter. Shakira began writing and composing music at the age of eight. Shakira is best known for her dancing style which primarily features her hips. Shakira returned to recording in 1995 and made her third studio album, Pies Descalzos.

Shakira to perform "Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)" at World Cup Closing Ceremony

Shakira and special guest Freshlyground will be performing the #1 Hit “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa)” during the closing ceremonies of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The performance will take place on the field at Soccer City Stadium in Johannesburg on July 11 and will precede the final match of the cup.

Shakira To Perform on "Ellen" And "American Idol"

Shakira will be performing "Gypsy" on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and American Idol later this week.
She will appear on Ellen on Wednesday, April 27, and will be joined by special guest Rascal Flatts for her performance on American Idol later that evening.
