The NFL announced on February 5, 2006, that the Superdome would reopen on September 25 when the New Orleans Saints host the Atlanta Falcons and will be shown on ESPN's Monday Night Football. The New Orleans Saints are a professional American football team based in New Orleans, Louisiana and are currently members of the Southern Division. The New Orleans Saints had their first-ever winning record and playoff appearance, going 12-3 in 1987.
