Although the New Jersey Devils made it to the conference finals, they lost to the Boston Bruins in seven games.  In 1994, the New Jersey Devils started gaining respectability in NHL circles by finishing with the league's second-best record and the franchise's first 100-point season.  The New Jersey Devils are a professional ice hockey team based in the Continental Airlines Arena of the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey.  The New Jersey Devils first game ended in a 3-3 tie to the Pittsburgh Penguins and its first win came at the expense of its new Hudson River rivals, the New York Rangers.  The New Jersey Devils played solidly throughout the 1987-88 season, garnering the first winning record in the franchise's 13-year history.  The New Jersey Devils went on to win its first-ever Stanley Cup in the lockout-shortened 1994-95 NHL season, sweeping the heavily favored Detroit Red Wings.  The team was officially renamed the New Jersey Devils on June 30, 1982.
