The New Haven Open at Yale was created in 1948 as the U.S. Women's Hardcourt Championships and first played in Sacramento, California in the United States. In 2011 The New Haven Open at Yale dropped the men's competition and carry on with the women's event only under the new name New Haven Open at Yale.
