The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) is a family-owned and -operated business venture that sanctions and governs multiple auto racing sports events.  NASCAR is one of the most viewed professional sports in terms of television ratings in the United States.  On December 14, 1947 William France began talks with other influential racers and promoters at the Ebony Bar at the Streamline Hotel at Daytona Beach, Florida, that ended with the formation
of NASCAR on February 21, 1948.  Similar to other professional leagues and sanctioning bodies, NASCAR has been the target of criticism on various topics from various sources.
