From the age of 16, Joe Jackson played in bars, and won a scholarship to study musical composition at London's Royal Academy of Music.  Joe Jackson, born August 11, 1954 in Burton upon Trent, Staffordshire, as David Ian Jackson, is an English musician and singer/songwriter probably best-known for the 1979 hit song Is She Really Going Out With Him?.  Joe Jackson is also an author, having written A Cure for Gravity, published in 1999, which Jackson has described as a book about music, thinly disguised as a memoir.  Joe Jackson was popular for his power-pop and New Wave sound early on before moving to more ecclectic, though less successful, pop/jazz/classical musical pieces.  Joe Jackson went on to record Night and Day, an album that paid tribute to the wit and style of Cole Porter and was his last album to hit the Top 10, peaking at #4.  The Joe Jackson Band was very successful and toured extensively, but after the breakup of the band, Joe Jackson took a break and recorded an album of old-style swing and blues tunes, Jumpin' Jive.
