Jessye Norman Information

Jessye Norman (born September 15, 1945) is an American opera singer.  Jessye Norman was born on September 15, 1945 in Augusta, Georgia to Silas Norman, an insurance salesman, and Janie King-Norman, a school teacher.  In 1972, Jessye Norman debuted at La Scala, where she sang the title role in Verdi's Aida and at London's Royal Opera at Covent Garden, where she sang the role of
Cassandra in Berlioz's Les Troyens.  Since the early 1990s Jessye Norman has lived in Croton-on-Hudson, New York in a secluded estate known as "The White Gates" which she purchased from television personality Allen Funt.
