In the Heights is a musical with music and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and a book by Quiara Alegría Hudes. Miranda wrote the earliest draft of In the Heights in 1999, his sophomore year of college. The first national tour of In the Heights began on October 27, 2009 in Tampa, Florida. In The Heights will begin a new, non-Equity United States national tour, starting on October 17, 2011, according to casting notices.
