Hall and Oates is an American musical duo composed of Daryl Hall and John Oates. Hall and Oates' "...smooth, catchy take on Philly soul brought them enormous commercial success" in the 1970s and 1980s. Early in their recording careers, Hall and Oates had trouble clearly defining
their sound, alternating among folk, soul, rock and pop. In 2010, Hall and Oates announced they would join a growing artists' boycott of the state of Arizona over the state's recently passed anti-illegal immigrant laws.
