Detroit Pistons Information

The Detroit Pistons is a team in the National Basketball Association based in the Detroit metropolitan area.  The Detroit Pistons were founded as the Fort Wayne Zollner Pistons, a National Basketball League (NBL) team, playing in the gym of North Side High School.  During the '60s and '70s, the Detroit Pistons were characterized by very strong individuals and weak teams.  The Detroit Pistons stumbled their way out of the 1970s and into the 1980s, beginning with a 16-66 record in 1979-80 and following up with a 21-61 record in 1980-81.  On June 10, 2008 the Detroit Pistons named first-year assistant coach and former players' union representative Michael Curry as their new head coach for the 2008-09 season.

The Detroit Pistons hold the eighth, 37th and 56th overall picks in the 2013 NBA Draft after the NBA Draft Lottery determined the first 14 selections this evening.
