| The first Boston Opera House was built in 1909 on Huntington Ave. in Boston, Massachusetts. During the Great Depression and World War II, the Boston Opera House fell into disuse and disrepair. The current Boston Opera House was fashioned from the former B.F. Keith Memorial Theatre, a movie and vaudeville theater at 538 Washington St. The Keith's Memorial opened October 29, 1928 and was dedicated to the vaudeville entrepreneur B.F. Keith. After closing as a movie house, the theater came into the hands of opera director Sarah Caldwell's Opera Company of Boston in 1980 and was renamed the Boston Opera House. |
