ACC Football Championship Information

As of 2005, the ACC began divisional play in football. Division leaders compete in a playoff game to determine the ACC championship. The Atlantic Coast Conference is one of the oldest collegiate athletic leagues in the United States founded in 1953. The inaugural ACC Championship Game was played on December 3, 2005 at ALLTEL Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida as Florida State defeated Virginia Tech.
